19th October 2024: Talk at The Arches – “An Actor’s Life”, Michael Wardle

At our October meeting in Ripon, Michael Wardle told us of his long and very full life in the acting world. Born in Bishop Auckland, he soon decided that “an actor’s life is for me”. His career began early, (and included a role in “Doctor In The House”); so much so that when he eventually went to Drama School it was decided he would only need two years there rather than the usual three. He was one of 5 males and 10 females on the course.

He described his time doing weekly “Rep”, when, at one time, he was learning four parts at a time, which could be very confusing and demanding. While perhaps not being famous for any leading roles, his acting career – spanning some 55 years, from 1969 – has varied from parts in “This Happy Breed” to Shakespeare’s “The Tempest” and, more recently, many years in the famous TV Series, “Heartbeat”.
