Benefits of Membership
Membership of the group will help you to meet people with similar interests and brings full access to information about all our activities, including day trips to interesting sites (normally but not exclusively NT), holidays, walks, talks, meals and other social events throughout the year. Brief details of all our forthcoming activities are listed on here on the website (opens in a new tab).
It also gives access to all the “member-only” sections of the website, including full details of our planned events, committee and AGM minutes and, of course, the right to vote at the AGM
How Much Does Membership Cost?
A year’s membership of the group costs a modest £10 for the first person in a household, and £4 for each additional person; we will hold this for 2025 but the subscription will increase a little in 2026. Our membership year runs from January to December but you can, of course, join at any time. If you join in September or later, your initial membership will last until the end of the following year.
Please note, though, that some of our activities, such as coach trips, holidays and meals, will attract extra charges, as may visits to properties although these will depend on on any memberships (eg National Trust, Historic Houses Association, etc.) that you may already hold.
Constitution
The latest version of our constitution was ratified at the AGM on 26th April 2025 and can be viewed here

We are pleased to welcome John Dixon, Pauline Smith, Jim & Moira Cowpe, and Sue Hunter to the Association and we look forward to meeting them at events throughout the year.
We will be having a Yorkshire Day “get-together” at Fountains Abbey, in our new garden. It would be good to see our new members there – do let Helen Stalker know you are coming so we can look out for you. Everyone is welcome. and more more information is available here
We now have 148 members and, with new leaflets and a website, this number should increase; please tell your friends about our Association.
Margaret Taylor
We are very sorry to have to report that Margaret has died in Harrogate hospital after a multitude of problems in the last four months culminating in falls, Covid and pneumonia. She was a member for 25 years. John and Margaret were recruited by Maurice Taylor in 1999, when attending the Rossett Lectures, which he organised. Margaret enjoyed all the activities and, for 15 years, she and John reported on all the meetings and visits they attended for the newsletter.
Margaret was 79. We send our sincere condolences to John at this sad time.

As we move on in the Association, we have been looking at the possibility of a new website, which will make our lives easier but, do not fear, we will still have our amazing newsletter, which Jan puts together. The number of people who praise our newsletter is very reassuring, so we must be doing the right thing. Well, done Jan!
For those members that have still not renewed their membership, there is still time, and you will receive a final reminder in with your newsletter.
As we look forward to our Spring and Summer events, please continue to either send the booking form or an e-mail to book your events and please try to book and pay by the final closing date.

Because of rising costs of printing and postage, while still wanting to give substantial amounts to National Trust projects, (as stated in our aims and objectives,) we will have to look to increase our membership fees. This will be done in line with our Constitution and discussed at our AGM in April 2025, to come into effect from January 2026. So, we are pleased to hold our membership costs for another year.
Peter Dickinson It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Peter on Sunday 13th October. Peter was a keen quizzer and always did well; before his illness he also enjoyed the lunches and the lectures. We are thinking of his wife Margaret and all the family at this sad time.
September 2024
We welcomed Angela Wright, Diana Creese, Ann Smith, Heather Law and Anne Jackson to the group and look forward to meeting them at future events. Immediately after the AGM, we were delighted to award certificates of 45 years’ service to the group and the NT to Sylvia Foxton and Patti Tankard.
March 2023
Thank you to all the members that have already paid their subscriptions for 2024. We do hope we can continue with our varied programme, and there is always something you can get involved with.
We go right back to 1978, which is amazing, and there are so many members that have been in the Association for over 25 years. We are coming up to our 50th year in 2028; this is our 46th year, and we are very proud to belong to an organization that has been so successful for so long.
For those of you who have not yet renewed your membership, we urge you to join again and help keep the association going for a very long time.
We look forward to meeting you all at our various events: it is so good to put a face to a name. Bring a friend, they will always be made welcome.
