June 2026

Dear Members,

Welcome to our Summer newsletter. We really have had some wonderful weather and enjoyed some good outings and of course our annual quiz. Thank you to all who attended and for your generous donations for the raffle.

As we announced at the AGM, one of our founder members, Sylvia Foxton, died on 22n March, and we attended her funeral on 27th April. I just wanted to let you know how much she had supported me over the years when a few of us stepped in to keep the Association going. There is more about Sylvia’s extraordinary life in the newsletter.

Also, Mike Green, who had booked a quiz team for our Quiz died suddenly just before the event. We do send our sympathy to Tracey his wife, and to his friends.

Our second Bridgewater visit is fully booked with a waiting list, and we also look forward to our first group holiday with Hanson Travel in Northumberland.

We have planned some interesting visits throughout the Summer including a visit to a special church in the Yorkshire Wolds, Kirby Grindalythe, and then on to Scampston Walled Gardens. We look forward also to our Walking Fest to Settle and our trip on the Settle to Carlisle Railway.

We have planned a visit to Dunham Massey in Cheshire, a National Trust house and gardens, which is accessible to all and with something for everyone; I am looking forward to my first visit there.

Please let me know if you have any ideas for future events, speakers or something totally different. We are always looking for something new and exciting to arrange.

Enjoy your summer and I look forward to meeting up with you at various events. I am only a phone call away, give me a call.

Helen
