17th Jan 2024 – Ascot House Lunch

Do you know how many sides a 20p coin has? And which of these countries, (Austria, Switzerland, Luxembourg), does not have the euro as its currency? These were two of the questions in the General Knowledge round of the quiz which Helen taxed us with at the first lunch of the year at Ascot House in January. Identifying trees with a picture of just one leaf was another tricky round.

My team, Table 2, were rather better with the answers to the questions on Yorkshire and did know which branch of the Women’s Institute provided the inspiration for the successful Calendar Girls film. (lt was Rylstone W.I.).

But Table 4 were the worthy winners*.

Geoff welcomed us all and it was good to meet up again after the Christmas and New Year break.

*Congratulations to the winning team: Katie Burke, Keith and Carol Drinkwater,  Janet and Ted Latham, Jenny and Wyn Goodhand Jones and John Walne. (The 20p coin has seven sides, and it is Switzerland that does not have the euro).
