The walk today was really lovely, and we were VERY lucky with the weather. It was very cold to start but warmed up and the sun came out, so when we finished we were able to watch the sudden downpour and short hail storm from the comfort of the café !
We found the memorial stone in the village of Lofthouse, at the end of the walk. We were amused by the advice about drinking water. The other two sides were war memorial inscriptions added after the old eighteenth century fountain was remodelled in 1920 by Duncan Drummond, the local stonemason, and topped with a cross.
